BIRTH OF THE FAMOUS NAMES

STRANGE NATURAL CIRCUMSTANCES CREATED THE FAMOUS NAMES


MERCEDES
This was actually the financier's daughter's name.
 

ADOBE
This came from name of the river Adobe Creek that ran behind the house of founder John Warnock.


APPLE COMPUTERS
It was the favorite fruit of founder Steve Jobs. He was three months late in filing a name for the business, and he threatened to call
his company Apple Computers if
the other colleagues didn't suggest a
better name by 5 O'clock that evening.


CISCO
It is not an acronym as popularly believed.
It is short for  San Francisco .


COMPAQ
This name was formed by using COMp, for computer, and PAQ to denote a small integral object.


COREL 
The name was derived from the founder's
name Dr. Michael Cowpland. It stands for  COwpland REsearchLaboratory.


GOOGLE 
The name started as a joke boasting about the amount of information the search-engine would be able to search. It was originally named 'Googol', a word for the number represented by 1 followed by 100 zeros. After founders- Stanford graduate students Sergey Brin and Larry Page presented their project to an angel investor, they received a cheque made out to 'Google' ...thus the name.


HOTMAIL
Founder Jack Smith got the idea of accessing e-mail via the web from a computer anywhere in the world. When Sabeer Bhatia came up with the business plan for the mail service, he tried all kinds of names ending in 'mail' and finally settled for hotmail as it included the letters "html" - the programming language used to write web pages. It was initially referred to as HoTMaiL with selective uppercasing.
 

HEWLETT PACKARD
Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard tossed a coin to decide whether the company they founded would be called Hewlett-Packard or Packard-Hewlett.


INTEL
Bob Noyce and Gordon Moore wanted to name their new company ' Moore Noyce'but that was already trademarked by a hotel chain so they had to settle for an acronym of INTegrated ELectronics.

 
LOTUE (Notes)
 Mitch Kapor got the name for his company from 'The Lotus Position' or 'Padmasana'. Kapoor used to be a teacher of Transcendental Meditation of  Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. 
 

MICROSOFT
Coined by Bill Gates to represent the company that was devoted to MICROcomputer SOFTware. Originally christened Micro-Soft, the '-' was removed later on.


MOTOROLA
Founder Paul Galvin came up with this name when his company started manufacturing radios for cars. The popular radio company at the time was called  Victrola.
 

ORACLE
Larry Ellison and Bob Oats were working on a consulting project for the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency). The code name for the project was called
Oracle (the CIA saw this as the system to give answers to all questions or something such). The project was designed to help use the newly written SQL code by IBM. The project eventually was terminated but Larry and Bob decided to finish what they started and bring it to the world. They kept the name Oracle and created the RDBMS engine. Later they kept the same name for the company.


SONY
It originated from the Latin word 'sonus' meaning sound, and 'sonny' a slang used by Americans to refer to a bright youngster.


SUN
Founded by four  Stanford  University buddies, SUN is the acronym for  Stanford  University Network. Andreas Bechtolsheim built a microcomputer; Vinod Khosla recruited him and Scott McNealy to manufacture computers based on it, and Bill Joy to develop a UNIX-based OS for the computer.


  YAHOO!
The word was invented by Jonathan Swift and used in his book 'Gulliver's Travels'. It represents a person who is repulsive in appearance and action and is barely human. Yahoo! Founders Jerry Yang and David Filo selected the name because they considered themselves yahoos.

Most people are stuck right where they are. The reason they're stuck, however, isn't usually due to circumstances, incompetence, or lack of opportunity, but a simple unwillingness to change, to try new things.

We can make smaller, inner changes on a day-to-day, moment to moment basis changes in our attitude, reactions, and expectations. I'm talking about being willing to take new risks, and face old fears. 

Over and over again I hear people saying things like I've always done things that way or That's just the type of person I am. These things are said as if they are carved in stone. It is amazing what you can learn by simply opening your mind and trying new things.

Starting today, tell yourself that you are going to do something, however small, a little differently. Perhaps you can be more friendly to the people you work with. Maybe it's not too late to overcome your fear of asking others to help you, or for their advice whoever you are, whatever you do, there is always something you can do a little differently. 

You may find that you love the tiny changes you make and that you can open exciting new doors by making relatively small adjustments. If you're okay with the changes, you might want to try some other changes as well.

One evening Swami Sri Ramakrishna was addressing the participants on the concept of work culture. One of the participants asked the following
question to Swamiji. "I am senior manager and I joined this organization 28 years ago.  Over the last 28 years, I have gone through every experience in
the organization and I am now the senior manager. During the initial part of my career, the job was very challenging and interesting.  Every day was
exciting and I looked forward to each day with lot of interest. However, all those exciting days are gone since I do not find my job any more
interesting.  As I have seen and handled every conceivable situation, there  is no more challenge in my work.

I am living in the same house for over forty-five years. I am the son of the same parents for over forty-five years.  I am the father of the same
children for the past twenty-one years and the husband of the same lady for the past twenty-two years.  In these personal roles, I do not feel bored and the passage of time has not taken away the Zeal from me. Please tell me why I am bored of the routine in the office and not in the house?

This was a very interesting question and we were all very anxious and  curious to know what the Swamiji had to say.

He asked the manager. "Please tell me for whom your mother cooks".
The manager replied that the mother "serves" others.
Swamiji replied, because of this service, she is not feeling tired or bored. But in an office, we work and not 'serve'.

Anything we consider as service will not make us feel bored.
He asked the executive to consider his work as service and not merely a work!
Whenever you put a larger context around your work and see a broader meaning for your work, you will take interest in your work.
An awareness of larger purpose of your job and an appreciation of its importance will make a very big difference in your internal energy.
You should believe that you are here for a purpose and should believe in the spiritual context of your role.

Engineers V/S Doctors






7 Engineers and 7 Doctors are going from PUNE to Mumbai.So both groups gather at Pune Station.

Both groups are desperately trying to prove their superiority .


SCENE 1 (PUNE- MUMBAI):

7 engineers take only 1 Ticket and 7 doctors buy all 7 tickets..

Doctors are desperately waiting for TC to come......

When TC arrives,

All 7 Engineers get in one toilet so when TC knocks, one hand come out with the ticket and the TC goes

Away....


NOW on return Journey All of them don't get a direct Train to PUNE. So they all decide to take a Passenger till Lonavala, from there they can easily get a LOCAL to PUNE




SCENE 2 (MUMBAI - LONAVALA):

Doctors decided, "this time we will prove that we too are equal"....All 7 Doctors take 1 Ticket Engineers don't buy any ticket at all!!!!!..

TC arrives....


ALL DOCTORS IN ONE TOILET.ALL ENGINEERS IN THE OPPOSITE.


One engineer gets out and knocks the door of Doctors toilet, One hand comes with the tickets, he takes the
ticket and comes in Engg. Bathroo! m... TC DRIVES out ALL the doctors from the toilet and they are
heavily fined.


SCENE 3 ( LONAVALA): !

SO now both the group r on LONAVALA station. Doctors planning their move for last chance, they board the local to Pune.

This time doctors decide that they will play the same (1 ticket) trick.

ALL Doctors take 1 tickets...Engineers BUY all 7 tickets this time...

SO TC Comes.. All Engineers showed their tickets ................... .....


Doctors are still searching for toilet in the LOCAL train...........




Conclusion:
Technically intelligent people are geniuses, don't mess with Engineers.
